Summer Workshop

It’s summertime and most of us are extra busy with travel, being outdoors, keeping the kids busy, and not doing as much sewing as we’d do during the colder months, right? If you’re like me you still like to have some sort of small project going at all times or a project you can easily pick up and put down.

This has been a particularly busy summer for me and I’ve not done any sewing for over a month! I still wanted to have something to work on in the evenings to feel productive and thought about the Crochet-Edged Flannel Blankets project I made for the Willow Look Book and decided I needed to make more of these blankets in all my Art Gallery Fabrics flannel prints.

About a week or so ago, I’d posted an inquiry of those interested in a tutorial on how to crochet the edges of a blanket on my Instagram page @sharonhollanddesigns and the response to such a tutorial was overwhelming! So, the wheels started in motion to create the tutorial here on my blog. This blog post is to give you a heads up that I’ll be posting a free Summer Workshop of tutorial posts on how to create Crochet-Edge Flannel Blankets. No sign up—just one or two blog posts with written and video instructions teaching you how I created my blankets with some basic crochet stitches. If you’re on getting my newsletters then they’ll come right to your inbox!

However, I’ve not yet set a date for when this tutorial will post but it will be within the next week or so—I unfortunately have a bunch of very important life stuff that needs immediate attention first and making samples and videos all takes time. I’ll not add extra stress on myself by setting a date right now but please know it will be coming very soon and if you want to make sure you know exactly when ‘coming soon’ is, be sure to follow me on Instagram as dates will be announced there first.

Summer Workshop

Crochet-Edge Flannel Blanket

You will learn how to:

  • How to make miter-cornered hems

  • Create a foundation for the crochet-edge

  • How to select the right hooks and yarns for this project

  • Four edge treatments using basic crochet stitches

Even if you’ve never crocheted before I feel confident this project can be done by everyone—no matter your skill level!

I’m using Art Gallery Fabrics double-brushed thick flannel for my projects you can purchase online and in your favorite fabric shops. If you’re interested in purchasing fabrics ahead of time, I made my samples 42-43’’ square and started with 1-1/4 yards of material, removing the selvages and squaring to size. If you’d like a smaller or larger size it can be customized to your needs and does not affect the project construction at all. You can prewash the fabric but for my samples I have not preached materials. We will talk about yarn size and selection as part of the tutorials so only go so far as to gather fabric at this time.

I am an Amazon Associate site and earn from qualifying purchases on the products I’ve linked below. The helpful products selected are the same or similar to materials used to make the project(s) in this blog post or related items I think you may enjoy.
