Willow Look Book

May 24, 2022

Hooray, the Art Gallery Fabric Willow Look Book is now live and ready to inspire you with quilts and sewing for your home and family! You wont want to miss this beautiful virtual magazine that showcases my newest Willow collection prints—it’s magical! View the Look Book HERE.

Experience the mystical realm of Willow, a collection where flora and fauna enchant charming forests and dreamy castles in hues of mauve, leafy green, gold, and ivory.

The AGF Look Books is a free resource of sewing inspiration and patterns that show off each AGF collection, showing how the different substrates will look in a variety of projects. Myself, other designers and makers from around the globe contribute projects for the virtual magazine. I love to create projects with my fabrics and also to photograph them for the Look Book. The previous three posts highlighted three projects with a more in-depth look at the: Castle Garden quilt, Take Wing quilt and slipcover, and the French Mattress Cushions. This post will highlight some of my other makes shown in the Willow Look Book.

CrotcheTed-Edge Receiving Blanket

This was possibly my favorite project to make for the Look Book and the hardest to keep secret until it’s release! I used the two flannel prints from the Willow collection and made crotcheted-edge receiving blankets from one yard (each) print and one skein of yarn. AGF Flannel is thick, double-brushed, stunning colors and print quality, and launders beautifully!

Using the DIY Cocktail Napkins: Linen with Crocheted Edge tutorial by Nourish and Nestle I made receiving blankets instead of napkins. Once I knew the technique I could add any sort of crotchet stitches to the edge to get different edge results. The Owl Things Floral flannel above got a scalloped edge stitch.

For the Entwined flannel print I loved this little pompom edge treatment. I have other flannel prints from past collections and want to start a collection of crotcheted-edge receiving blankets to have on hand for gifts and just because they are such a fun project to have to work on in the evenings!

Dreamland Nightgown

Technically, I did not make this adorable Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop Dreamland nightgown—my daughter sewed it up but I will list it under my makes anyway! My daughter has taken off with sewing for herself and her family and loves working with AGF knits. Don’t be nervous about sewing with knit—it’s the most forgiving substrate and oh, so comfy to wear. I bought her a serger last year because she was sewing up a storm of P.J’s for her kids but you can sew knits on a domestic sewing machine as well (with a few adjustments to normal sewing). There’s resources online for sewing with knits and you should definitely give it a try!

My daughter and family came for a long weekend in March and we had all the kids modeling Willow projects! My oldest granddaughter models her new nightgown made with the Willow Fanfare knit and AGF Spotted knit accents of the perfect peach color to match.

Fairy Set

Willow is a magical, make-believe, woodland sort of collection so when selecting projects to make for the Look Book I knew I wanted to make PomPom Du Monde’s free Fairy Set. My grandkids adore dressing up and this was exactly what my granddaughter loves.

The wings have boning in them to keep from being floppy and flutter as she moves her shoulders and plays! The crown is adjustable in size with ribbon ties and also the shoulder straps can be adjusted to size for your child or yourself!

Little Bear Cape

Another adorable free pattern from PomPom Du Monde is this Little Bear Cape. It’s the perfect fantasy for any kid and my grandson had so much fun exploring and pretending to be a bear.

This pattern is good for all sort of woven fabrics so I used the Entwined flannel print for the exterior and the Flora and Fauna cotton print for the lining. Some vintage buttons and twill tape for the button closure and the cape was ready for any adventure!

Pillow Pile

Because I made quilts for the Willow Look Book and planned to style a bedroom scene for the photographs I knew I wanted to make lots of pillows from my Willow cottons as bedding accessories. You can see more of these projects singled out in the Look Book so I will only list the pattern resources.

From the bottom up:

Flanged Pillow Case by Online Fabric Store

Roll It Up Pillowcase by All People Quilt

Ruffle Pillow Cover by Farmhouse on Boone

This pair of My Stars pillows were made from the My Stars pattern found in my Shop. I love the large blocks to show off the prints and the addition of Chenille-It Blooming Bias edges for extra texture and detail. You can read more about these pillows and the My Stars quilt pattern on the original blog post HERE. Learn how to apply Chenille-It bias to a pillow or a quilt with my tutorial HERE.

Seraphine Swan

Last, but not least is the Seraphina Swan pattern by Gingercake Patterns and Design. With my Rosewater Ballet print that features swans I just had to make this pattern!

The youngest of my grandchildren made his debut and what a cute way to show you scale of the Seraphina Swan softie! I used AGF solid flannel for the swan’s body and assorted Willow prints and the white flannel on the wings.

The pattern was well written and very easy to make. My granddaughter claimed it right away and is adorable on a bed or for a nursery!
