Coastline Blog Tour Week 1 Recap

What a fantastic first week of February with the inspiration packed start of the Coastline Blog Tour and the Art Gallery Fabrics and Aurifil thread set giveaway! I hope you've been following along and visiting the amazing bloggers on the tour. Here's a look back at what happened this week. Find the entire tour schedule on my earlier Coastline Blog Tour post.

A huge thanks goes out to all the makers in the tour but I want to give a shout out to this weeks talent:

Thank you to my friend Heidi Staples of Fabricmutt for the perfect Brass Ring Pillow project from her book Sew Organized for the Busy Girl and her support and friendship. I love this gal and her attention to detail and enthusiasm for all things fabric and sewing.

How about the amazing job Bethany Raymond of Sew-Not-Perfect making the Jenna Tote by Sotakhandmade purse pattern made with the Sandbar canvas and in drafting a skirt pattern using my High-Flown knit print.

Talk about gorgeous, Lisa Mabey of Mabey She Made It braves a snowstorm to be photographed in her Tradewinds knit mermaid skirt and Sew Caroline Sugar Pop Top pattern. Wow, I think she pulled it off beautifully!

On day 4 of the tour, Corinne Sovey of Must Love Quilts showed off this stunning Boardwalk quilt she designed with all the prints in the Coastline collection. Quilt lovers be sure to check out her site for more inspiration behind this design.

My tour would not be complete without Raedene Averitt of Chasing Mermaids Shop because Raedene is possibly the biggest fan of the coast and ocean. Her daughter looks so adorable in the Kailua Town Dress pattern by Little Lizard King.

I don't do a lot of clothing sewing so it was a nice chance to offer you, as my followers, clothing options from experts in that field. As readers of this blog, I hope you enjoyed the blog tour! A fabric giveaway was also part of the Sketchbook Blog Tour. The prize, a 20-piece bundle of 1/2 yard Sketchbook fabric cuts. That's 10 yards total of fabric! Sketchbook Blog Tour Day 2

I couldn't be more excited about the Sketchbook Blog Tour week. Today's post by Raedene Averitt from Chasing Mermaids is one of the five reasons why I'm so happy! In addition to the five ladies posting beautiful Sketchbook fabric projects, I will also be posting each day with either a tutorial or new free project. Today will be a tutorial on how to sew a French Seam. The rest of the week I will have sewing projects that use French seam construction.

FRENCH SEAMS

I love French Seams. They are as pretty on the inside as they are on the outside. The technique is very simple, but can sometimes be confusing because you begin the French seam by sewing with the WRONG sides together. That's what usually trips people up. Here's how they are made:

1. With raw edges even, sew the WRONG sides together along the side seam line(s) using the seam allowance indicated in the pattern.

2. Turn pieces RIGHT sides together, press, and stitch deep enough to encase the raw edges inside the new seam or as indicated in the pattern. Note: Some patterns will have you trim the seam(s) before turning, so always read through the instructions before you begin.

3. Turn right side out and VOILA!

Tomorrow we will put this technique to good use and make a pretty pencil case to fit into back-to-school notebooks!
