October Review

October was such a busy month! In the previous blog post, I shared images of my Fall 2015 Quilt Market booth showcasing my newest fabric Coastline for Art Gallery Fabrics.  The fall show is always held in Houston, TX during October. Visit the AGF Blog to see more images and videos from the show.

Last month two quilting and sewing publications hit the newsstands with Sketchbook fabric projects. I love seeing the projects in print and finally being able to share them with you.

2015-1016 International Quilt Festival Quilt Scene magazine

2015-1016 International Quilt Festival Quilt Scene magazine

It's an honor to be included in the Quilt Scene magazine. This issue is a feast for the eyes with amazing art quilts, luscious fabrics, and designs. My project is definitely the easiest one in the magazine but is a great project if you're looking for a quick gift idea for your favorite artist.

Use a store-bought dish towel and turn it into a work apron. Use your favorite scrap prints to customize the look. I love how Quilt Scene photographed this for the magazine.

Winter 2015 Stitch magazine

Winter 2015 Stitch magazine

This beautiful issue of Stitch magazine is their final issue. After seven years the magazine will no longer be printed. I had always wanted to have a project in this magazine. One of my most favorite quilts was made for my Sketchbook fabrics Spring 2015 Quilt Market booth. Kilim Quilt was inspired by kilim rugs and was so much fun to create.

Last up for the October Review it's time to revisit October's Sharon Holland Nature Study photos. I have given myself a personal challenge to photograph a flat lay image each week for a year. The parameters I set for myself is the contents of the photo must be of natural origins. So far, I have also included a color mood for the photo as a way to further categorize and connect the objects.

Quilt Now Magazine Featured Designer

Hello Springtime!

Well, by the calendar it's springtime anyway. Yesterday we had some snow flurries and freezing rain. But I am confident it will get here when it's ready.

Even though I haven't posted for awhile I have still been busy sewing and creating. How about you? What have you been working on?

I just got my Quilt Now magazine in the mail yesterday and want to share this beautiful cover with you. The cover quilt was designed and made by Sharon McConnell of Color Girl Quilts using my Gossamer fabrics from Art Gallery Fabrics.

Quilt Now is a UK magazine and not always easy to find on the newsstands in the States. I subscribe to it through Pink Castle Fabrics. Today is National Puppy Day and although Henry is not a puppy he is still a puppy at heart. My handsome Henry helped pose with me for the designer feature in the article and here's a peek into the spread.

Next posts I will show you some recent quilts I have been working on and sneak peeks into my next fabric collection with Art Gallery Fabrics! I start my sewing for Spring Market later this week and soon the excitement of getting ready for the show will begin!

Summer Quilts

Alright, I know it has been awhile since I have made a post, this is a tough time of year to be inside working on sewing projects. Weeds need to be pulled, garden veggies need to be planted and summer distractions pull you away. Luckily, I used the early spring time to get some quilt projects done and the fruits of those days are blooming now. Be looking for the Aug/Sept issue of Quilt Magazine on your newsstands, that pretty quilt on the cover - it is mine!

I used fabrics from my Dilly Day Collection to create this pinwheel pattern. You can make summer last forever with a sunny quilt like this. I really love a scrap quilt and this one is lots of fun.

In chipping away at my "to do" list, this was the year to recover the patio furniture. I decided to tear apart the original cushions and use the old fabric as templates to make new covers. I reused the plastic cording in the piping and the zippers on the cushions. The only thing new was all the outdoor fabric. I am very pleased with the results and since I love this patio set - it is so comfy, it now looks brand new with my snappy terra cotta cushions with string colored piping. It probably looks extra fresh to me because we just got the house repainted too and everything is looking pretty nice right now.

I hope you are able to complete some of your projects too, whether it is in the yard or in the sewing room. Have fun with your projects and have a great summer.

As Seen on TV

As the new year began, the new episodes of the public television series, Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting have started airing. This years series is labeled their 1900 series. Hosted by Marianne Fons and her daughter Mary Fons, various quilting projects and techniques are demonstrated using different quilting projects. As part of this years 1900 series, in episode 1904 titled, "Feedsack Flowers" Mary Fons is joined by Sandy Gervais to demonstrate making a hexagon "log-cabin" style block set together in a brilliant, no-set-in method.

In this episode, the fabrics used in the demonstration part of the project are from my Blue Skies collection from Fabri-Quilt - Paintbrush Studio line!

If you are wanting to give this block a try - it's super fun - use this link for a quick on-line video in conjunction to this project. This project had been first seen in their Easy Quilts - Scrap Quilts Fall 2011 issue and this link showcases the block from that source. click on the technique labeled "Log Cabin Hexagons" for the video. (sign in is required to view the video.)

You will want to check your local listings for the airing times of the Fons & Porter Love of Quilting series in your area. For more information on how to find out what is available by you, visit http://www.fonsandporter.com/tv_showtimes.html

I wish I had more time right now to play around with this block, I am fascinated by a hexagon shaped block and would really love to make a full project from this technique, but, alas, too many irons in the fire right now, that one must be put on a back burner for awhile!
