Are you ready for some sewing inspiration? Look no further than the Potager Look Book for spring-fresh fabrics and sewing projects!
The Potager Look Book is a virtual catalog of projects made by many talented makers and designers using my new Potager fabric collection for Art Gallery Fabrics. This blog post will be about the quilts and accessories that I sewed as my contribution to Look Book.
Garden Gate Quilt Kit
You can now get the Garden Gate quilt kit at your favorite quilt shop! See the list of online shops that carry it, HERE. You won’t find the pattern in my shop—It’s only sold as a printed pattern through shops and in the kit at this time. The PDF version of the pattern will be available for download from my shop in September so get it now through quilt shops so you can enjoy this throw quilt all spring and summer!
I’ve had the idea for this quilt in my head for a long time, just waiting for the perfect fabric collection to inspire me! I designed a bird’s-eye view quilt of a garden with a center fountain, pathways, flower pots filled with blooming flowers, and sunflowers all surrounded by a picket fence. The charming cottage prints of my Potager collection completed the picture.
This intermediate skill level 64” x 76” throw quilt is a medallion-style quilt. The fully illustrated pattern breaks down the piecing into different types of blocks and each one is fun to make. It’s like a sampler quilt, in a way!
Star Light Table Runner
You may have already seen the Star Light table runner in my previous post about the Star Light pattern release but if you missed it, read and see more about the quilt release and the runner, HERE. Both the Star Light cover quilt and this table runner are made with the Potager collection. I made this sunny yellow runner especially for my table and it’s my new, spring table runner.
At the time of writing this blog post, there are still just a few Star Light table runner kits left available at Midlife Quilter shop. Grab yours before they are gone!
Waxed Storage Bags
Another of the projects I made for the Potager Look Book was a set of Waxed Bread Bags using the pattern from my Shop. I absolutely love the yellow, ‘Flowers for Mom’ print and this cheddar-yellow is a delicious color for a bread bag!
Waxed bread bags make a great gift to give bread makers or the give filled with homemade bread to those that don’t bake bread themselves. The properties of beeswax help keep bread fresher and create a reusable storage bag that looks pretty!
Quilted Carryall
The Quilted Carryall is another pattern you will find in my shop, HERE and is one of my most popular patterns! I absolutely love making these bags and use them as gift bags that the recipient can use over and over again for shopping, travel, toting around toys, books, craft supplies, etc.
This easy-construction bag has a roomy, zippered interior pocket and snap closure. You can even easily adjust the height of the bag and the pattern has a video tutorial to take you through the steps. Get the pattern from my Shop.
Potager Panel Baby Quilt
I made my first-ever panel for the Potager collection and it was fun to make but even more fun to quilt up as a baby quilt! You can use this panel in so many ways: As it is and make a darling baby quilt, fussy cut the flowers as center squares in patchwork or embellished with embroidery details, fussy cut the hexagon flowers to appliqué onto clothing or cloth for sewing into patchwork and other projects, or cut any of the motifs into border strips and sew or apply to larger projects—there’s endless possibilities!
I used Hobbs Batting Polydown batting inside my quilt for a lofty puff and used both hand quilting and machine quilting to quilt the layers. For the backing, I used the Hens and Chicks flannel print for even more coziness and bound the quilt using the 2.5 Edition binding from the Potager collection.
Rickrack Pillow
Along with the 16 quilting cottons for the Potager collection, there is also the Hens and Chicks flannel, a wide back 108”-wide quilting cotton in Flowers for Mom in Porcelain, and the lovely Delicate Balance Linen blend. For the Rickrack pillow I used the linen blend on the front of the pillow and for the backing.
The Rickrack pillow pattern is a project size option in the Rickrack pattern you can find in my Shop, HERE. This beginner-friendly patchwork goes together fast and lets you play with lots of prints. Instructions for how to professionally finish your pillow and create a Lapped Zipper backing is included in the pattern.
